the female to male wage gap

this is a recent (as in I finished it tonight) essay I did for one of my classes.  enjoy.  also if you have anything to add please do so.  I want all the info I can get!!! I did not find info on LGBT+ affected by the wage gap.  I would love some info on that!

The Female to Male Wage Gap

Statistically the wage gap goes something like this; white men, other men, white ladies, black ladies, Latina ladies, other ladies.  Some people like to pretend that the gap doesn’t exist.  But most everyone including the Department of Labor knows that it does exist.  Despite laws stating that it should not.  In the continuing pages I would like to discuss that gap and attempt to figure out a way to get rid of it.

Serena Fong of Catalyst*, said that there is a gender based leadership gap as well as a pay gap.  She states that over 98% of Fortune 500 companies have male CEO’s, and that the salary studies (also conducted by Catalyst) show that women at these companies start off with $4,600 less than their male counterparts, even accounting for differences in education and experience.

According to the article Ten Graphs That Show Babies Aren’t Solely to Blame For The Wage Gap written by Sarah Mirk and published by Bitch Media in April of 2014.  The wage gap exists in every state.  It is affected by race, gender, state of residence, age, education, profession, and whether you have children or not.

Like the title states, they show and briefly discuss ten graphs.  The most current years in each graph range from 2009 to 2012.  Some do not list a year.  Most do not list race.

The first graph covers the gap between what men and women with children make.  In America it is a 22% difference.  With a 5-7% increase for every new child a woman has.  That is about average.

The second graph shows the percentage of moms making more money than their husbands.  The percent has gone up A LOT sense 1967.  From 11.7 in 1967 to 41.4 in 2009 with moms as sole breadwinners.  While households with either a mom breadwinner or co-breadwinners went from 27.7 in 1967 to 63.9 in 2009.  Although nothing much has changed on that front sense 2007.  FYI that’s 10 years.  Ten years of what someone is being paid, staying the same.  The cost of everything has gone up sense then.  Why not wages?

The third and fourth graphs, discusses the gap by state and birth rate (if you are of prime child bearing ages).  In Arkansas its 74.6% however if you are ages 15-44 it goes down to 67.5.  the widest gap was in Wyoming with 64.3 and70.2.  However, in Puerto Rico women make 101.1% and 44.8 compared to what men make.

The fifth graph illustrates race and the gap.  It covers men and women of Asian, White non-Hispanic, Hispanic, and Black races.  It sadly does not cover First Nations or Immigrants.  It shows from 1971 to 2011.  From around 2010 Asian men made more than anyone else.  With white men being the next closest.  Followed by Asian Women, Black Men, Hispanic Men, with white women, Black women, and Hispanic women bringing up the rear.  It should be noted that the latest data in this graph is from 2011 and that there is a large gap between white men and Asian Women.

Graph number six covers three races, educational levels and the year 2012.  It covers White Women, African American Women and Hispanic Women.  All ranging in education from less than a high school diploma to an advanced degree.  Women with an advanced degree make the most.  However White Women with an advanced degree make THE most.

Graphs seven and eight converge age and education.  They show what we all know by now.  That no matter what men make more.  Have kids? Don’t have kids?  In your prime working years? CEO of a Business?  Men still make more.

Nine covers education and gender.  While earning goes up with a college education, men still make more.    The most recent year is 2010 and it looks like men make about 7,000 more annually.

Ten shows the earnings of women by industry in 2009.  With a bunch of dots.  The bigger the dot, the more women.  the smallest dot, that is also highest up on the graph is mining and oil.  The largest dot is health and education with an average gap of 80% the nicest gap is in construction with better than 90% parity.  That means that it is very, very similar to what men make.  However, there are not a lot of women in this field at all.  We are taught that it is a man’s job.  “It’s too hard on the body for women”. “It’s not lady like…”.  I can tell you from my own personal experience that women can do this job.

Let’s see what we can do to make this gap a page in a history book.  Now we all know that women make 77-54 (possibly less for first nations women and immigrants).  There are some things we can do as a WHOLE to change this.  So lets dig in and start the next steps.

*******PLEASE NOTE***** This essay does not include studies based on any one sexual orientation, religion, sexual preference or any such things as I do not currently have that data.

My uterus my rules.

My uterus my rules
(in which we try to discus reproductive rights like humans)

Reproductive rights are usually a hot topic with people. Some people want to get rid of birth control, abortions and even sex education. Some people want to keep only certain forms of these things. And still others want to keep them all and get rid of some/ most restrictions.
Now let’s present the sides. First the right to lifers. The really loud right to lifers are usually White, Cis gender, middle aged, Republican, Christian men. The next loudest ones are usually White, Cis gender, middle aged, Republican, Christian women. Next, we have the Pro choicers. Pro choicers are usually not republican. They are usually considered liberals. They range in age, race, religion, and gender.
Now let’s present the arguments. Side one, the right to lifers. They firmly believe that all pregnancies are gifts from God and should be carried to term no matter what. No matter that the mother or child may not survive the labor. No matter if the pregnancy was the product of rape or incest. No matter if you are under the age of 18 and not fully grown. No matter if you are poor, homeless, addicted to drugs (or a habitual user). It’s just your tough luck if you can’t afford a baby. You should have thought about that before you had sex. Because the same people fighting for the right to tell you what to do with your uterus are the same people trying to cut all forms of welfare. So, you better stay home and raise that baby also while working a full-time job making 35,000+ a year so you can be a productive member of society, all while teaching your child good Christian values. But don’t teach them about sex that is just wrong.
It is statistically proven that states with an “abstinence only” sexual education system has the highest teen pregnancy rates. Because teens do not know how getting pregnant works. They do not know that penis + vagina = Baby.
Right to lifers believe that an unborn baby can feel pain from before the baby is fully formed. But will pierce a baby girl’s ears and have a little boy circumcised within hours of birth because they are unsure if they can feel pain or not. They also sometimes go against science and want to believe that babies are fully formed within weeks if not days or hours of conception. They want abstinence only or nothing at all taught in schools.
Now for the pro choicers. Pro Choicers firmly believe that it is “your uterus, your rules”.
For instance, if the pregnancy is a product of rape or incest. Abortion within so many weeks of conception is a viable option. Adoption and keeping the pregnancy are also options. If you or the baby will not survive the labor and after much thought and/or prayer you have come to the decision to have an abortion. We will find you grief counseling while we cry with you. What if you can’t afford a baby. As previously stated abortion and adoption are both options. However so are various forms of welfare, assistance with schooling, housing, and health insurance and health providers. Planned Parenthood is a veritable wealth of information and services. Also no one will judge you because none of us are perfect.
Prochoicers know that an unborn baby cannot feel pain, but that a new born can. The believe in science and statistics. Babies are not fully formed until months after conception. Abstinence only just does not work.
Sex is a biological function. Almost everyone has sexual urges. Anyone with the urge will explore. I would rather they explore safely and as educated as possible. That includes teaching children as young as 12 about what sex is. What it can cause. Explaining about birth control options and condoms. Explaining what does not work, such as pulling out, “dry sex”, only using certain positions, so on and so forth.
I say as young as 12 because I went to school with girls who were married with a baby at 12. In Arkansas you can be that young and with a parent’s consent get married. I never saw those girls after sixth grade. My daughter is 13, I taught her how sex works because I will not put her threw what those girls went through.

This post is about what???

As members of “The Opposable Thumbs” squad, we all have a few things in common.   We all eat, breath, and excrete things.  Roughly half of us can make and carry a baby or more inside of us at one time.   If I posted a picture of blood, what would you think? Bright, red BLOOD!!!!  Whatever would you think?  Would you say “ew” or “ick”?  Would you think I was “sucidal” or “seeking attention” or “obsessed”?  I bet you would never guess That I was thinking about “vaginal” or”menstral” blood!

That dreaded once a month thing that happens. The “crimson tide”, “French revolution”, “shark week”, or”satans waterfall”

Roughly half the world will have around 11 of these “curses” a year. For between 30-40 years. Yet it is considered disgusting .  Why is that?  I don’t think it is disgusting.

For centuries menstration Was considered sacred.  A gift from the gods even.  But the. Some shift happened and we had to hide it away.  Never speak of it. Never never never.  It was now unholy, disgusting, and unclean.  This is the way it has been ever sense.

There are many different ways to collect this blood .  You can use a tampon. A pad, or a cup.  You can just let it flow or you can stop it all together.  Did you know that women used to feed their blood to their plants?  Did you know that it can also be used for spells?? What would you think if I told you that I collect mine and give it to my plants every moth?  Surprised? Disgusted? Shocked?  What?  I personally think that we should give back to Mother Earth as much as we can and blood has nutrients so I don’t see why not.

Cooking

Does anyone love to cook? From scratch? I do. I love to cook from scratch.  I am strange like that. I love the bare bones ingredients, and the mess.  The tools you need, that it takes extra thought.  And that the planning has to be perfect or it all goes ka-boom!!

This is the desert I made. It may not look pretty but it taste pretty and that is what counts. I also made a slow cooker salsbury steak and it didn’t work quite right but it still tasted good.  The kitchen is my domain.  I get to listen to whatever I want while I cook just about whatever I want and people leave me to it. It’s wonderful when that happens.  It’s quite lovely to ha e at least one area where no one is looking over your shoulder all the time.

not your average woman

Today I was told I need to watch my mouth. I am a grown ass mother fucking woman I can say what ever I gods damned well want to. I was told this by a 62 year old man that drops the N word daily. The guy that told me this is my dad. I also get told its not “lady like” to cuss or spit. My sinuses drain down my throat, that’s why I spit. I hate snot, I can’t stand the sight of it. If I swallow it I will throw up. It’s also not lady like to work multiple jobs and have muscles and be stronger and smarter than a man but guess what. I do all of that too. Life makes you hard and if that is not lady like than people can just fucking deal with it.

I make people uncomfortable, I think its because I challenge them. I challenge what is normal and acceptable, I don’t keep my mouth shut about much and I don’t care if people don’t like me. I make my mom uncomfortable because she wants people to like her, my dad because I act like a man, most men I meet don’t like me because I am more “manly” than they are. They want someone that they can rescue and tell what to do. They want someone who will not ask questions or be smarter than them. I don’t need to be rescued, I ask questions and am not stupid or week. If you want Bella Swan, then you are at the wrong place. I do not need saving from the dragon, I am the dragon. I earned my crown of stone in blood and bone. this is no tiny tiara on my head. This is a crown of stone on my head and I earned this bitch.
